Anton by Hatched Furniture

Hatched Furniture

One of my favorite short stories begins with a single word sentence, Twilight. Economy in craft still leaves the mark of the tailor. Anton Chekhov's two-page story "Twilight" turns words anew to share an old human haunt. His writing has inspired me for 20 years. Cheers to Anton! The simple lines of the chair belie the time at the bench I take to cut and curve the wood frame. So, sit if you will and have a sip to the tailor.

Hatched Furniture

Bleached American maple with linen. Inspired by the fresh start, beginnings, the blank canvas. A sophisticated complement to the home. Liberated from austerity or fuss . The bleached maple, glass pulls and white linen panels lend well as a canvas to personalize. Trees Ln. console table by Hatched Furniture

Trees Ln. console table

Hatched Furniture

A taller sibling to the Trees Ln. bench; its height brings more attention to the angles and through joinery of the legs. Made entirely of American maple and shown stained with a vinegar and iron mixture that turns the wood tannins gray.
Breslow side table by Hatched Furniture

Breslow side table

Hatched Furniture

Named after, and originally commissioned by, New York cityscape artist Lisa Breslow, whose smoky soft paintings resonate with the Hatched Furniture sensibility. The Breslow side table is two toned gray via an iron and vinegar concoction we use to stain solid American maple, and we've given it a clever little feature with an unabashedly exposed drawer. Hand made in our New Jersey shop.
Trees Ln. bench by Hatched Furniture

Trees Ln. bench

Hatched Furniture

American maple with iron and vinegar stain height: 18 inches seat: 15 x 56 inches Trees Ln. is an obscure dirt road, named after a local farmer, that leads to a beach. The coloring from our iron and vinegar finish technique lends to this farmhouse or driftwood feel. Yet the lines of the piece are crisp and contemporary, and there is a visual luxury to the silken ripples of the polished grayed wood-grain.

Hatched Furniture

This is a sexy little table. Bone colored bleached maple legs have a slight curve that tapers to the tips. The mahogany top and drawer keep curves of their own. For texture we hand carve ripples under the top lip. The glass pull, like a stud pinned to the cravat for company, with the hand cut dovetails give Bon Temps the comforting amount of sophistication.

Bridge & Tunnel by Hatched Furniture

Bridge & Tunnel

Hatched Furniture

This piece is charming and warm with mid-century lines in an unconventional form. Architectural in shape, suggesting a cottage or bridge, and warmed with grayed ship-lapped siding. The top is recessed for sculpture or getting out the old board games with a perimeter reserved for funny-money and drinks. Designed and built in house and all hand made, hand finished and literally built like a house. Contact for materials or sizing or options. The name, Bridge & Tunnel, is a term given to New Jersey residents that commute into Manhattan.
Arden Lamp by Hatched Furniture

Arden Lamp

Hatched Furniture

It would seem that a lamp is a perfect way to add some sculptural form to a room. Unfortunately most lamps are anti-sculpture. So, following the advise of a professor that told me, “If you can’t find the book you need, then write it.” we designed and built the Arden Lamp. Inspired by the Bridgehampton sculptor, Arden Scott, we designed this lamp to add simple graceful lines to the room. The linen shade is standard, but we do have some thoughts on that for the future.
