Doreen Westphal Studio

Concrete Lace, designed by Doreen Westphal, is made from ultra high performance concrete (fabricated by G.tecz) and different suspension materials like ribbon or 1mm steal cable. During the making process the suspensions are casted inside the lace-shaped concrete tiles. Applications include gauzes for hotels, auditoriums and public buildings, window treatment or room dividers for private homes, decorative interior and exterior wall coverings, visual dividers for large spaces like restaurants, parking garages or urban gardens. Concrete Lace can be customized to any size, application and atmosphere.

Concrete Crochet Tiles by Doreen Westphal Studio

Concrete Crochet Tiles

Doreen Westphal Studio

Concrete Crochet Tiles designed by Doreen Westphal are made of ceramic concrete (by G.tecz) and capture a hand crafted inlay of traditional crochet. The contrast of the rigid, flowing lines of the repetitive pattern through the concrete allow the eye of the viewer to skim the concrete surface, discovering the positive and negative space within, while creating a sphere of subtle movement and rhythm.
Tea Towel Ruhr by Doreen Westphal Studio

Tea Towel Ruhr

Doreen Westphal Studio

Tea Towel Ruhr During the summer of 2009 Doreen Westphal visited the Ruhrgebiet. The dense fusion of history, art and culture within this area left a deep impression on her. Once back in Holland she asked graphic designer Oliver Cornelissen to collaborate together and make a collage of the impressions she collected during her travel; the Zeche Zollverein, the Aquarius water tower, the unbelievable art works on top of the heaps, de Halden, and the stories she got told about the sport with the messenger pigeons; the ‘horse races’ of the working people. Expanding the design into a table cloth is also possible. Tea towel ‘Ruhr’ is selected by Design Kiosk to be exhibited and sold during the year 2010 when the Ruhr area is cultural capital of Europe.
Thinking of Holland Table Cloth by Doreen Westphal Studio

Thinking of Holland Table Cloth

Doreen Westphal Studio

‘Thinking of Holland’ is a beautiful linen table cloth which morrows the thoughts of the designer about the identity about her chosen home country The Netherlands. Everybody dining at the table has an own perspective of a part of the collage and the images which express what makes Holland so special: the modern windmills, the way the polder work, the architecture of for example the Erasmus bridge, the herring, the ear of Van Gogh or the Royals. The whole collage is framed by hundreds of small bicycles and The Netherlands most famous poem by Hendrik Marsman ‘Thinking of Holland’ is running around it like an endless ribbon.
