Green Arts and Crafts Kitchen by Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry

Green Arts and Crafts Kitchen

Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry

Chris and Dulce Faria bought a beautiful farmhouse in much need of repair, but they didn’t rush into choosing a design for their kitchen. Their arts and crafts kitchen needed to match their personal style and fit into the overall design of the home. The custom cabinetry is finished in a custom color built to their specifications, matching a sample the two saw at a home show during their design search.

Tipping Point and two Dime cabinets by Splinter Works

Tipping Point and two Dime cabinets

Splinter Works

This photograph shows the central island units of Tipping Point and on the far wall, two Dime cabinets. Dime, Rosewood veneer, carbon fibre, cherry and stainless steel, H 1750 L 1400 W 800 mm, Edition of twenty four. Dime was inspired by the emotive and long art-historically studied shape of the circle. It is a dynamic piece evoking a spinning coin, but also physically the individual rosewood compound curved segments glide and shuffle to reveal its function. The piece when closed has a poetic repetition of form, softened by the luminous rosewood. As you guide the curved segments from the handles they have a pleasing resistance. The individual shapes interact to create micro-sculptures where the rosewood leaves meet and extend. The aesthetic outcome of the work was actually led by the design process, with the outcome of repeated geometry creating this illusion of movement and half spherical shape. The edges of the rosewood leaves are painted in a high gloss which segments and highlights their shape. The playful shape allows the user to hide or reveal the work-top and storage solutions. The works have hidden electricity points to enable the use of electrical appliances, with shelving and a curved drawer for storage. The worktops are made of black and gold Italian Portoro marble. The door handles are made of cast steel and directly echo the shape and design of the whole piece. Dime is available in an edition of 24. They can be installed individually or as a group and can function in myriad ways, a sculptural bar, additional worktop space for preparing food, marble surface for rolling pastry, a self contained coffee bar, workspace, writing desk, or a beautiful discrete flexible work area wherever it is needed.

Alea by Varenna by Poliform

Varenna by Poliform

Alea. Primary form. A rigorous design for a new defining of the kitchen. A project by Paolo Piva featuring ’minimal’ formal characteristics: to convert every practical unit into sheer design, essential forms, maintaining the highest possible operativeness. The aesthetic concept of Alea is linked to the strong prominence which singles out every composition, every element, and which is at times an edge, others a frame or structure. The containers, the work tops, the wall or island operative parts become perfect geometrical ’solids’, surfaces which enhance the separate materials. Every Alea detail brings out the design drive of ’giving shape’ to a new concept of the kitchen.
Evoluzione/Sinuosa by Effeti

Evolution, is a kitchen free from classic structures and from any imposition on space, thus allowing for solutions that offer complete functionality in the kitchen environment and to incorporate the living area. Sinuosa is an innovative project created as a perfect integration for the Evoluzione model, characterized by a strong formal plasticity. It is a module with a 45° curve that, combined with elements of the Evolution model, means one or more curves can be created, allowing for multiple configurations that can make the kitchen block sinuous and extremely flexible.
