Young and Norgate at Design Junction London 2012 – elegant and contemporary
It is surprising that Young and Norgate get any work done at all. They are based on the South Coast of Devon, a beautiful, relaxed and peaceful corner of England. But they obviously don’t spend all their time walking on the beach or indulging in cream teas. Somehow, they find time to design and produce limited runs of elegant contemporary furniture from the finest materials, FSC certified timbers hand picked from local suppliers, premium leathers from Scotland, even ironmongery from New York. And we are going to see them as part of BlogTour London at Design Junction this September.
We do like a good chair, and this does everything right. Wellington Chair is both simple and elegant. Made from European Oak or Black American Walnut with a laminated back support, it has been hand shaped for comfort.
The Animate bedside is unusual in that it showcases its drawer mechanics which are simply part of the piece, rather than hidden away. Available in all sorts of colors as part of a limited run it is made from American Black Walnut and Formica.
The Vere Coffee table has more than a touch of the Mid-Century Modern about it. Handcrafted from solid walnut is also has a twist, or at least its legs have a twist.
Why be boring when you can have fun, eh? We think this is a really memorable piece of furniture and wish we were quick enough to snap up one, or more, of the limited run.
Young & Norgate also make custom pieces of all sorts to meet all requirements. And when we saw them at Clerkenwell design Week they had a bucket of ice cold beer. We believe this puts them into the top ten percent of furniture designers world wide. We look forward to seeing them at Design Junction.
