The Pink Jalk Project – doing good with style

The Pink Jalk Project, an online auction to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, is a collaboration between Suite NY with Swarovski and Lange Production. The annual fundraiser invites 20 top designers to interpret a chair design, which, for the first time this year, has been designed by a woman.

The GJ chair by Grete Jalk is pure inspired design even without the customizations by design talent like Kelly Wearstler, Aerin Lauder, Brad Ford and many others and we want to share our favorites with you and hopefully direct your attention to the online auction which is open through October 31, 2012.

Have a look, tell us your favorite and, most importantly, join the auction for a chance of owning one of these:

Amanda Nisbet combines glossy surfboard finish with Macassar ebony veneer (left) while Brad Ford found that the chair was so beautiful as it was, he didn’t want to add so instead, he subtracted, making the design appear lighter and more fragile. Brad quotes Freud who said: “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.”

Stephanie Goto’s vision for the chair was to show “true beauty by reflecting the world around it (left) with a combination of mirror finish silver lacquer and pink leather whilst Kelly Wearstler for Swarovski used inspiration of her Marquetry pattern for the chair, featuring Swarovski crystals in subtly varied hues.

Aerin Lauder sought to soften the bold, modern lines by wrapping the chair in braided jute for a more natural look that still retains the focus on the chair design (left) and Winka Dubbeldam took her inspiration for the the teak Jalk chair in an unusual teak-decorated apartment building, The Ava, in New York.

Deborah Berke celebrates the 49 women who were pioneers in the field of architecture by hand painting their names on wood grain that acts like a lined paper backdrop while David Rockwell goes glam with the chair’s underside lined in Swarovski crystal tiles and illuminated with thin LED strips for a glamorous celebration of the work of The Breast Cancer Foundation.

You can see the entire collection at Suite NY or enter the online auction here.
