Why did you choose to design for the generation you did?

GenXers are a generation that is driven by striking a balance between work and family. They are incredibly focused, well informed and authentic in their lifestyle, and as a result tend to be more decisive in their decision making process… and that’s a good client!

Generational groups are useful shorthand – but what are the other big demographic factors you consider when creating a design concept for a client?

For me demographic factors are only used as a base line and a starting point to help better understand the group as a whole. No two clients are alike even within the same demographic – so creating a design concept for a client must be based on their specific set of criteria and personal profile.  Listen, decipher and create.

When you designed your project did you have a specific client, imaginary or otherwise, in mind? Could you picture them?

Picturing a client in my minds eye is important for this type of project in order to maintain a focus. Understanding the client and learning exactly who they are is the most important factor to consider when creating a design concept.

I created an ideal client profile based on multiple clients, and morphed them into one.

Tools of the trade – do you draw early sketches with pencil and paper – or work digitally?

I do love hand drafting/sketching and always conceptualize by hand first. It allows me to feel the organic nature of design. I work through the planning/design phase that way until which time I’m ready to hand the drawings off to my draftsman to transfer on to CAD.

Tell  us more about yourself:

What’s the first song that comes into your head NOW? (go on, sing a bit….)

Carry On by Fun…..thanks to my kids blasting it in my car – over and over.

What’s the last thing you bought yourself, as a gift?

A new favorite pair of boots!

Whose home interiors would you most like to see?

George Clooney’s Lake Cuomo home………for many reasons ;) !

For whom, living or dead, would you most like to design an interior?

I’m a huge fan of Sir Richard Branson’s brilliance and entrepreneurial spirit.  I would love to be involved in the re-design of the Great House on Necker Island…..or any other residence of his for that matter!

Which superhero power would you most like to possess? And what would your superhero name be?

I would LOVE to fly!  Flying dreams make me feel invincible and highly productive. No longer having to navigate the LA Freeways would be a dream come true!  Just call me……HotFlash!
