Play it again Sam – thoroughly modern vintage

tri pod industrial vintage light

We talk a lot about sustainably sourced furniture, often with an emphasis on renewable resources and pieces that are built so well that they will last for generations and through sheer longevity deserve credit for contributing to environmental efforts in design. See Modenus for more on that.  But then there has to also be mention of all those vintage vendors out there who, often through painstaking restoration work,  breathe new life into what once was chic and create a design style from pieces that were never intended to be anything but utilitarian.

Industrial 1940s Survey Tripod, Sea Port Enamelled Lamp. Spring Shade, Wenching Hook and Brass details. Adjustable Height. At Modern 50.

industrial bent plywood stools

We love the ridiculous amount of metal work at the base of these work stools by Get Back. The seat backs are bent ply and the seats adjust from 24″ to 34″ height.

vintage 24 drawer chest

The vintage 24 drawer chest is found at Cottonwood Furniture and part of their Industrial Revolution collection. Great for media storage surely, we simply love it for the visual texture it gets from the many drawers and cryptic numbering system.

vintage draftsman's table

Probably one of our favorite design elements in a space, regardless of the overall design being traditional or modern, a vintage draftsman’s desk always works. This one’s probably best in a voluminous space. At Get Back.

vintage black pine pendant

There is an amazing amount of great vintage or industrial salvage lighting out there at the moment and it’s a trend we love but this one really does deserve a mention. We found this early century black pine bentwood pendant at Modern 50 and there are five available. Can’t find those on every corner so better hurry.

massimo vignelli glas mugs

And while certainly not industrial, we wanted to show you this very rare clear set of 4 Maxi mugs. These are from the famous line of stacking dinnerware by MASSIMO VIGNELLI ca. 1971 . This design was the winner of a Compasso d’Oro award in Italy, and is included in the Museum of Modern Art Permanent Design Collection, New York City. And guess what? I’m getting on the phone right now, because I’m loving this one and it’s mine and nothing you can do about it. Also at 50 Modern.
