A spa-like bathroom by Alena Capra
This master bath renovation project by Alena Capra began with the client’s desire to have more of a spa-like feel to their bathroom. Throughout their travels, they had stayed at many hotels that had a lot of great features in the bathrooms that they wanted to recreate in their own. First thing to go were the mirrors. This is a very angular room, and there were mirrors on every surface, including the ceiling. According to Alena, it was actually quite difficult to get a true idea of this space until all of the mirrors were removed! She chose a color palette of softer earth tones to create a more zen like feel than the existing mexican floor tile and blue and white walls provided. She used limestone from Marble Systems throughout the bathroom, a mixture of ‘Sea Shell’ and ‘Olive Green’ in various sizes, as well as a mosaic blend that pulled in all of the colors plus a few more. We removed the glass block from the shower area, and opened up the space to let more light in with clear glass. A luxury shower system was installed with chrome Hansgrohe products, included body jets, a handshower, and an additional shower head. Storage solutions were key for the client, so Alena designed custom cabinetry in a rich espresso stain to suit every storage need. Eventually, mirrors were added back to the walls, but more carefully this time, to enhance the space just right. Details such as a light up makeup mirror were added as well. Light fixtures in a dark bronze from Minka Lavery were chosen to compliment the cabinet color. Finally, Silestone countertops and beautiful large cast iron under-mount sinks from Kohler were installed to create a stunning yet practical countertop surface for the bathroom.
