One of the things we enjoy most on Twitter is the constant influx of design talent to help inspire us and reignite the excitement within this industry. We come across so many varying styles and approaches, from design newbies to seasoned pros, creative little boutique firms and really big ueber-design-firms. We see very modern, timeless classics, playfully eclectic and everything in between and try to always celebrate that mix since it seems no matter what direction a designer takes, if they do it with vision, passion and drive they will have a following. Someone who’s following is undeniable and who’s vision and confidence is reflected in every single portfolio picture of hers we see is Michelle Jennings Wiebe, ASID. Michelle is @StudioM_ on Twitter and yes, Michelle I want to know about the underscore after the M. Of course you can see Michelle’s work at her own website Interiors by Studio M or you can pay her a visit on Modenus, where she is often featured on our community page.
Tell us about yourself. What do you do? Where do you live?
Hello, my name is Michelle Jennings Wiebe, ASID. I am the President/Principal Interior Designer of a full service interior design firm Studio M Inc., based in Tampa, Florida. My husband and I work together, which is a lot of fun! I am also the busy mom of three children.
What’s a typical day in your life?
Well, let’s just say every day is very different, which I love, but this is as close to “typical” as possible…..My days begin by getting my two boys off to school, then a power walk or work-out. After returning home, I spend time with our daughter, get dressed, and head to the office or out in the field. My drive into work usually consists of calling clients or vendors to make sure that each project is running smoothly. If I go to the office first, I meet with my team and review any open agenda items, then it’s off to the resource room or computer for design time! On other days, I might drive directly to a construction site or client’s home. Some days, I spend almost the entire day driving to my different projects, whether for client meetings, sub-contractor meetings, installations, etc. My car is my office on wheels! Later in the evening, it’s back home for dinner, homework, and spending time with the fam. Of course, some evenings we have special client meetings or dinners, too. Once the kiddos are to bed, there is usually some more computer work, or my husband and I watch some design TV, one of my passions!
What makes you laugh? What makes you cry? What makes you happy?
A good comedy movie. A good comedy movie. A good comedy movie. In all seriousness, I love to laugh and a good comedy seems to do the trick for me every time! I usually laugh so hard that I begin to cry which can be quite annoying at times. My happiest days are those spent with my friends and family, especially when we get to travel.
What was the inspiration for you to use Twitter as a communication platform?
The inspiration for Twitter and all social media came from our firm’s belief in innovation. I truly believe that all successful companies are those that reinvent themselves to stay ahead of the competition. Once I began using Twitter, I found that I LOVE it. I have met so many new friends on Twitter, then have met them in “real” life. It has opened up so many new relationships. Twitter is such a large part of my everyday life, that I may even be an addict!? (Gasp!!)
Where do you want to be in ten years from now?
I have actually set some HUGE goals for both myself and Studio M. We are starting to do more projects on a national level, so we want to have a huge design presence not only nationally, but internationally. In addition to our interior design projects, I would like to host or create a design TV show, produce/design home interior product lines, and even write some design books. We have seeds planted for each of these goals, so now we are working on them becoming reality! Needless to say, these are super exciting times at Studio M!
If you have a moment today, please follow Michelle on Twitter or check out her website for inspiration and a truly great design style. The fact that she juggles such a great firm, raise three children and manages to still look this good only adds to the overall picture and yes, I’m just a little tiny bit jealous.
