Modenus is proud to feature the very talented Boston interior designer and design blogger Linda Merrill and her award winning Bachelor Pad design for the IFDA New England’s Designer Showcase. For more about this project and Linda’s work please find her at Surroundings.
Despite numerous zoning obstacles of the building situated in a historical area alongside the Charles River, Linda managed to turn this dated and unappealing window front into the living room’s focal point.
The existing radiators were turned into window seats that beautifully reflect the molding details found elsewhere in the home and add additional seating to enjoy the stunning view. At the owner’s request, furnishings and walls were kept clean and minimal which further offsets the beauty of the new window wall.
We find the newly carved out kitchen space even more inspired. The existing kitchen walls were removed to open the space into the living room and Linda softened the transition point into the kitchen through a curved ceiling detail which is also reflected in the island counter top. Stacked cabinetry adds height while maintaining the clean and modernist lines we found in the living room.
Congratulations on a very excellent job, Linda!!!
