A very grown up kitchen by Cheryl Medford Von Tress
This shows what can be achieved when a design professional takes charge. Cheryl Medford Von Tress‘s client was tired of her dining area and kitchen, its 1980s oatmeal, white and blue colors, its dated flooring and limited space. The cupboards hovered overhead and the laundry closet barely left enough room to squeeze into the adjacent guest suite. OK, we guess, for guests you didn’t actually want to stay for too long. But the client was more hospitable than that and wanted a functionally beautiful and calm space. A straightened corridor, slightly raised counter, granite work surfaces, bamboo flooring the removal of the soffit all contributed. The lighting deserves a special mention of its own. Custom lighting was added with Forecast Lighting “Oasis” sconces along the pantry wall and a matching pendant over the dining room table. Rope lighting was installed along the floorboards and up-lighting illuminates nearby screens, furniture and art.
Barbara the client, went as far as to say, “I love the lighting, almost all of it is on rheostat so it can be dimmed to set a soft, soothing mood. At night it’s kind of like a stage set and sometimes Doug and I turn the lights on and just sit in the dark living room admiring our kitchen.”
Now if that isn’t the sort of accolade we all wish for. In fact the outcome is a very grown up, warm and contemporary kitchen. More pictures follow.
