I am a proud eighth-generation Virginian. My family’s centuries-old roots in the Old Dominion are echoed in my love of the state’s unique and varied history. I continue to find inspiration every day, all around me. I grew up in McLean, Virginia with nine brothers and sisters. The house was always buzzing with activity, and there was always someone to play with. Back then McLean was a sleepy, little suburb, not the big city it is today. I began my career as an event planner, which required me to travel to every state in the U.S. That job's disciplines taught me that the devil really is in the details and the importance of project management. After earning my degree in Interior Design, then working for several top designers, I started my design business, Liza Jane Interiors, in 2005. The name, Liza Jane, comes from the song "Little Liza Jane." My father used to sing this song to me when I was a little girl and I have always loved it. I am passionate about fine art, antiques, dogs, and travel! I have had the pleasure of visiting South Korea, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Austria, Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic. Oh, and I play a wicked game of backgammon!
The modern oval-shaped building exterior influenced the development of interior aesthetics. The apartment looks over the city through the curved glass walls, through which daylight diligently pierces the space and playfully bounces off of the convexed surfaces of the apartment. The entrance corridor narrows down midway and broadens up eventually into the living room, embracing the daylight with a swinging impact. More secluded rooms of the house are animated with reflective elements like freestanding glass wardrobes and two stainless steel walls in the guest bathroom accentuating the RGB lighting. Stainless steel is reiterated in the kitchen, which can be partitioned from the living room with a sliding door, leaving only a decorative kitchen island exposed. Four core silhouettes are present throughout the apartment ceilings and the parqueted areas of the floors. These shapes are distilled from the hand-sketched outlines, adding a human touch to the futuristic forms. Wooden floor zones and custom white forms on the ceilings are the cozy blips in the large monochrome surface areas.
