Vintage Silver Cocktail Spoon by Silver Magpies

Vintage Silver Cocktail Spoon

Silver Magpies

Another handmade gem from Leonore Doskow of New York. Widely known for their quirky one-of-a-kind items, this sleek cocktail spoon is certain to mix a mojito anyone would love. Absolutely without ornamentation until reaching the end of the handle where a 3 initial monogram forms the terminal end. This use of the monogram as an integral part of the structure of the piece, rather than an engraving or a later application, is one of the hallmarks of Doskow pieces. In excellent condition with a triple monogram. This spoon measures a full 12 inches long. Tiffany Vintage Silver Melon Spoons by Silver Magpies

Tiffany Vintage Silver Melon Spoons

Silver Magpies

Designed by Arthur Leroy Barney, Tiffany introduced the Castillian pattern in 1929. This is a set of six blunt nosed melon spoons. The shovel-like end of each bowl was intended to aid you as you dug into a piece of ripe juicy melon. I can think of a few other places where this blunt nose would also be useful...with a brownie and hot fudge sundae, or breaking through the top of a delectable souffle. The Castillian pattern is very handsome, with it's clean Art Deco lines offering a lovely balance between soft curves and hard angles. The bowl of each spoon has a light goldwash, that highlights the unusual and beautiful shape of the bowl. This entire set is in excellent condition, and each spoon is 5 3/4 inches (14.60 cm) long . Each piece is tastefully monogrammed.
Vintage Silver Mid-Century Bow by Silver Magpies

Vintage Silver Mid-Century Bow

Silver Magpies

Made by Schweitzer Silver Co., Brooklyn, NY 1950-1960. Sleek, modern, very cool, but with a twist. This fantastic bowl is a wonderful mixture - the bowl is super minimalist with a simple rolled lip and no other adornment - fitting for a MCM piece. Then you look again and see that it rests on 3 legs, OK nothing too unusual about that. The legs though, are applied triangular hoof-like ones! Very traditional. It's almost like the designer lost his/her nerve about going so very cutting edge. Or perhaps you could interpret it as a type of Neo-Georgian design, harking back to the clean and simple lines produced in that era? Regardless of your artistic dissection, it works and the bowl is very cool. It is in excellent condition. A touch over 5 1/2 inches in diameter and a touch under 3 inches high (14 x 7.5cm).
