Wrong Woods by Established and Sons

Wrong Woods

Established and Sons

British artist Richard Woods is renowned for his work with garish and repetitious motifs. He has applied these to façades, floors and walls across the world in commissioned work and gallery installations. These ‘logos’ are most often abstractions and interpretations of familiar, and unfashionable, domestic pattern. The woodblock print used on the WrongWoods cabinets is a particularly recognisable Woods signature print. Designer Sebastian Wrong teamed up with Woods as part of the Established & Sons’ program of ‘Collaborations’ where individuals from two different creative fields apply their skills to a single design. Woods’ motifs were applied to utilitarian cabinets, reminiscent of 1950s furniture, designed by Wrong. The cabinets are an especially fitting vehicle for Woods’ prints that are often nostalgic interpretations of mid-century domestic interiors. The family of storage cabinets produced includes a small night table, a chest of drawers, a long low credenza and a wall unit. The WrongWoods series is currently available in three of Woods’ signature colourways.
Zero-In low table by Established and Sons

Zero-In low table

Established and Sons

The Zero-In low table by BarberOsgerby makes use of several visual illusions and challenging construction techniques. A seamless ribbon of polyester forms the base of the table. A dual wall construction means that the interior walls of the table converge at a more extreme angle than the exterior walls and when objects are placed upon the table’s glass surface they appear to float unaided. The whole table seems to hover slightly above the ground with the aid of concealed feet. The Zero-In table works well as a domestic coffee table and side table and also offers solutions for commercial spaces. The Zero-In’s elegant proportions and timeless design make it the perfect partner for any contemporary or classic seating system. Quilt Chair by Established and Sons

Quilt Chair

Established and Sons

Quilt Chair. The visual appearance of comfort is articulated through the unusual upholstery of the Quilt series of chairs and sofas. A pocketed outer layer, constructed from hi-tech stretch fabric, has individual foam pieces inserted within it. This outer layer is texturally rich and inviting. Like a quilt or rug, it is then placed loosely upon a fibreglass shell and steel frame. The Quilt chair is an antithesis to the formal, structured sofas and seating designs we have become familiar with.

Panoramic sofa by Established and Sons

Panoramic sofa

Established and Sons

The Panoramic sofa is both a stylish and exceptionally comfortable seating solution. The strong geometric form of the encasing frame offers a graphic silhouette whilst generous proportioned upholstery and soft cushioning offers extreme comfort. Seat and back cushions are made from a combination of foam and goose down while the sculptural slim relief of the side and back panels provide strong structural support. The Panoramic is available as a three-seater sofa or sectional with matching ottoman. Best in Furniture, Elle Decoration International Design Awards, 2007
Nekton stools by Established and Sons

Nekton stools

Established and Sons

The Nekton stools are curvaceous and tactile, exceptionally sculptural objects. The stools were designed as a unit with four individual pieces. The movement, unity and contrasts between the four individual pieces, when used as a whole composition, were the point of interest for architect Zaha Hadid who has employed her famously innovative approach to spacial dynamics in this design. The Nekton stools can be scattered and used individually, combined in small clusters or used together as a whole seating system. That this group of pieces can be constantly adapted, to suit any situation or environment, whilst retaining its theatrical properties, is perhaps its strongest feature.
Concrete Drift by Established and Sons

Concrete Drift

Established and Sons

A piece of found driftwood initiated the design for the Drift bench. The naturally formed fluid lines of that found object provided inspiration for Amanda Levete’s exercises in complex curves, angles and subtracted spaces. The Drift bench is an extremely sculptural design whose function, as a seating object, is clear although the primary concern for Levete has been translating her organic, highly sensual architectural language into a condensed form. This cast concrete version of the bench is suitable for permanent outdoor use. Best Furniture Design, Design Week Awards, 2007

De La Warr Pavilion Chair by Established and Sons

De La Warr Pavilion Chair

Established and Sons

The De La Warr Pavilion Chair was initially commissioned by the newly renovated De La Warr Pavilion as a piece of furniture that would represent the best of contemporary design whilst remaining sympathetic to the aesthetic of their iconic 1930s building. BarberOsgerby were directly influenced by the modernist architecture of this famous, landmark building and have created a fluid, elegant but utterly functional chair as a response. The distinctive skid leg of this chair was developed as a response to the observation that most chairs, particularly dining chairs, are often viewed from the back. This element became the most engaging feature of the much revered De La Warr Pavilion Chair which is constructed from pressure die cast aluminium. The De La Warr Pavilion chair is available non-upholstered or with an upholstered seat in a variety of fabric and leather options. A tricolour version is also available as Limited production run.
Bricks & Mortar by Established and Sons

Bricks & Mortar

Established and Sons

British artist Richard Woods and designer Sebastian Wrong have collaborated on the design of this series of sofas and chairs. The upholstery bears a classic Woods screen print that turns a recycled, domestic motif into an applied ‘icon’. The irony of the Bricks & Mortar design lies in the extreme comfort of the chair in comparison to the perceived ‘hardness’ of the print. The elegant, fundamental shape of the single seat chair, two-seater sofa and footstool provide the ideal vehicle for Woods’ bold design.
Alto by Established and Sons

Alto

Established and Sons

Alto is a family of stools created by designer Michael Marriott to fulfil a number of different seating applications. The curved leather and plywood seat of each stool sits on top of an elegant fluid steel frame. Marriott’s use of flat oval section steel tube offers structural advantages whilst also creating a literal and visual lightness to the design. The void beneath the seat is emphasised, exaggerating the cantilevering of the seat above it. The effect is challenging and surprising. The Alto is a solid seating design ideal for applications in commercial and residential spaces. The stools are available in two sizes, the largest intended for use as a bar stool. A black leather upholstered seat or a black stained plywood seat are available in both sizes.
Two Timer by Established and Sons

Two Timer

Established and Sons

Sam Hecht acknowledges the modern condition of a mass movement of people between countries and time zones through the design of the Two Timer clock Here, two clocks share the same face. The shape of the (formally atypical) clock face is stretched to accommodate the two timepieces as if a finger has stretched a round clock to form a newly functional corner. Two quartz movements, with a carefully devised dial, are housed in a plastic frame. Two Timer is available in two sizes. The clock will sit happily in the home, the office, the hospital, the hotel, the airline lounge, or the foyer of a financial building. Best Graphic Award, Creative Review, 2009
The Font Clock by Established and Sons

The Font Clock

Established and Sons

The Font Clock takes the iconic calendar clock with its distinctive form and flip mechanism and introduces a variety of contemporary typefaces in an ever-changing display. Twelve very different typefaces are employed in the subtle transformation of this timeless design masterpiece. These range from modern renditions of classic type families like Bodoni to 20th century classics like Franklin Gothic and Helvetica. True to its philosophy of working with and promoting the very best of British design, Established & Sons has chosen to work with the Grayson Time Management System. Grayson is responsible for providing the timekeeping for institutions such as the London Stock Exchange. The Font Clock is available in three sizes.
Torch Light by Established and Sons

Torch Light

Established and Sons

A variety of non-domestic, but yet familiar and functional forms of lighting inspired Sylvain Willenz’s design. Torch Light, owes elements of its form to the typical torch and the car headlight. PVC dipped polymer gives a tactile finish, referencing the handheld nature of a torch, whilst light shines through a clear, diamond textured polycarbonate diffuser (akin to the textured glass of a car headlight) creating an ambient light. The Torch Light is available as a table light in two sizes, suspension light in three sizes and as a grouped bunch of suspension lights of 10 or 20. Best in Lighting, Elle Decoration International Design Awards, 2009
Louvre Light by Established and Sons

Louvre Light

Established and Sons

A variety of visual references can be detected in the form of the Louvre Light. Firstly, the shape and function of Venetian window blinds was influential, as was mid-century Scandinavian lighting, even the rear windows of 1980s ‘muscle’ cars provided inspiration. Seamless pressed aluminium louvres with compound-curved corners are repeated layer upon layer in a manner that creates a multi-faceted shade able to provide glare-free, directional and ambient light. The Louvre Light is a practical light source, capable of creating different levels of ambient light and also a formally enticing object in its own right. The proportions of the Louvre Light make it ideal for suspension over any sized dining table, it is available in anodized aluminium and powder-coated finishes.
LandMark by Established and Sons

LandMark

Established and Sons

he typologies of landmarks; the functional geographical markers designed to be seen from the air, were reinterpreted into domestic elements by Sylvain Willenz. These engaging, graphic forms have been reworked, to create a series of lights in powder-coated sheet steel with opal, acrylic diffusers. The lights are available in table and floor versions.
Fold by Established and Sons

Fold

Established and Sons

The process of folding sheet steel to achieve three dimensional structure earned the series of Fold lights their name. The T1 (smallest) Fold light is manufactured from just a single sheet of steel, folded several times, with no need for additional fixings. The resulting silhouetted form of the Fold is representative of the basic outline of a traditional light, a reference that is furthered by the addition of a classic braided fabric cable. These nostalgic references to traditional lighting are made all the more potent by the comparatively modern materials and construction techniques applied in the manufacture of the lights. The Fold light is available as a table light in two sizes and matching floor light. Flatliner by Established and Sons

Flatliner

Established and Sons

Flatliner is a stealth lighting product that creates a powerful visual illusion. A minimal 10mm thin acrylic disc conceals 240 LED’s within its slim profile. That this particularly slim casing is able to contain the powerful light it does, is a considerable engineering feat achieved by designer Jason Bruges. Flatliner is available as a table light, floor light and a particularly impressive suspension light.
Buggs Light by Established and Sons

Buggs Light

Established and Sons

Sebastian Wrong has subverted a traditional lighting type and infected it with his own dark humour. A spherical opal glass form bears the addition of a familiar face and is made by hand-blowing glass into a mould. The resulting light transmits a subtle, soft glow. Buggs Light is available as a floor and suspension light with ceramic ceiling plate. A tabletop version sits atop a conical ceramic stand.
Beam Lights by Established and Sons

Beam Lights

Established and Sons

The form of the Beam Light’s blown glass and spun aluminium shade represents the fall of light from a light source. The elementary shape is inspired by how a child might draw the action of light shining from a shade. Hecht has simply interpreted this idea into a three dimensional object. The clarity of form, clearly expressed idea and easy functionality of this product make it a typical Industrial Facility design. The Beam Light is available as a suspension and matching floor light with two height options. Best in Lighting, Grand Designs Awards, 2008
