Oh how very cliché, chocolate for Valentine’s and oh we do try to come up with something more extravagant every year but then here they come, the chocolate boutiques with truffles and chocolates that demand to be admired, savored and in some cases framed and put on a wall. And can we resist? Do we want to? Absolutely vehemently “No, nein, non, no!”. Nothing says “I love you” better than perhaps the words themselves or a very very striking bouquet of roses, but really, one can’t eat roses. So we’re posting this a few days ahead of time to give everyone the chance to still get an order in and pretend they didn’t forget this year. These are a few of our favorites but please, by all means, chime in and share your favorites with us.
Certainly one of the most artistic creations we’ve ever come across and admittedly something we like to send out to very special people every now and then, Norman Love Confections are such an incredibly stunning display they seem much too beautiful to eat. Let us assure you that, in product testing for this article we’ve had no qualms and boldly cast appreciation for art and design aside. They taste as amazing as they look. It was a dirty job but someone had to do it.
If you think that only what’s on the inside is what matters, think again. Yes it’s just so very superficial but the package does matter and in this case the package goes way over the top which to us seems just about where it should be for a special occasion. Zchocolat will package your selected chocolates in their own mahogany ballotin, complete with brass name tag if you so desire and who, we ask you, wouldn’t want their chocolates to be personalized. Once you’ve tried them you will understand why it’s your box, and only your box. An amazing feature is actually the shipping. The company will update you on every step of the journey until your precious cargo arrives safely at your doorstep. We even received a call when it had crossed the border.
And finally an old friend and favorite, as much because we love going to Vosges Chocolate‘s shop at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, where we’re happy to spend the bulk of our recent black jack winnings on the collections vast, innovative and at times disconcerting assortment of flavors. Close your eyes, dream up a flavor you’d like to try wrapped in chocolate, like paprika, sea salt, olive or yes, bacon or stay safe with champagne truffles sprinkled with edible gold leaf.
So, when it comes to chocolate, what’s your poison?
