Oh Amsterdam!

The College Hotel Amsterdam

At dinner last night the conversation turned to a visit to Amsterdam about 3 years ago. I found it to be an amazing city with far less emphasis on the dreaded red light district and no, not everyone was smoking a joint, but true to it’s stigma of being a city of tulips,  bicycles and very beautiful design.

I went back to the website of the hotel I had stayed at, I remember the whole concept having been rather new when I stayed there. The college hotel had originally been a school building and was lovingly redesigned as a hotel which now doubles as a training facility for hotel management and culinary arts students under the experienced tutelage of world class chefs and hoteliers – mind you. The college received the Prix-Villegiature Paris award for ‘Best Interior Design of a Hotel in Europe’ and it shows.

A must see if you get a chance to go, beware the cyclists, they know no mercy for pedestrians. The college is a few minutes walk from Museum Square and a few more minutes from the most wonderful shops.

Try being the navigator for a driver on the first driving visit to Amsterdam.

I so love Amsterdam and so appreciated you noting that it is not a city which is truly representative of its stereotype;) I discovered your upcoming site through a group on Linked In, excited to learn more about your concept!

    All the best,

Oh, Amsterdam! I can never spend enough time in Amsterdam. Sitting next to a canal enjoying the gentle movement of the cyclists is soul soothing for me. No mad traffic jams or horn honking. All ages and walks of life enjoy the path taking them to their destinations. Thanks for returning me to those memories.

This morning, sitting in the lobby parlour, I glanced out of the window. It was nearly 8am yet the light was still very dim, barely lighting the snow powdering the still well trimmed hedges, warm light spilling out from the courtyard windows. I knew I didn’t want to leave. 24 Hours was such a taste but it was almost a tease ;) Thank you again V for sharing in your memories.
