My Upper West Side Story Part I: Welcome to the Show
By Florence von Pelet
Welcome to New York City, home of BlogTour NYC and The AD Home Design Show. You have just arrived in the city that never sleeps so prepare to be dazzled and energized. Whether it is your first trip or your hundred and first trip, there is always something exciting and new to see in NYC, and with spring’s early arrival there is no better time to take in the sights.
While I love this island from its southernmost tip and the views of Lady Liberty to the Cloisters up north, I have a particular fondness for my neighborhood of the past thirty plus years, the Upper West Side.
The Upper West Side runs from Central Park to the Hudson River from 59th Street to 110th Street and there are a plethora of things to do and see. The ballet, opera, museums, shopping, restaurants, Central Park and Riverside Park are all at your feet.
If you will be shopping the AD Show, and let’s be honest, who won’t be, the UWS is just a hop, skip, bike or pedi-cab ride away.
Whether you meander eastward towards Central Park or take the lesser known path along the Hudson River replete with its budding trees and majestic views, you will see what Upper West Siders have known for years (with no disrespect to our neighbors): The West is definitely best!
On Broadway at 59th street you will find The Time Warner Center, home to CNN, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Whole Foods as well as a variety of wonderful restaurants and shops.
As you travel north on Broadway, you will arrive at Lincoln Center, home to Julliard, NYC Ballet and The NY Philharmonic just to name a few. It is also the stage for the semi annual show of shows, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
If your stomach begins to growl, enjoy the many restaurants in the area or stop at a food cart and enjoy your meal while you soak in the sights and sounds.
And if you travel west from Columbus to Broadway, you will see our very own UWS Apple Store with a more traditional food cart right outside, just in case you crave a hot pretzel or hot dog.
Rest up and get ready as we head further uptown and explore Museums, Architecture and of course, more food.
