Rarely do we find a young design talent where depth and inspiration is paired with rebellion and challenge. Nika Zupanc who will be exhibiting some of her work at Moooi’s Portobello Dock showroom during London Design Festival, does just that.
Marcel Wanders, who’s design firm Moooi has already picked up several pieces by the young designer has this to say about Nika:
“In a world of design which is dominated by rationalism, minimalism and technology, it is a pleasure and a necessity to find a scarce and lonely soul who puts forward her power and sensitivity to create pieces with a smart esthetic and feminine language. Let’s hope she will lead a way for the long awaited emancipation of femininity in design.”
We love how Nika combines precise lines with unexpected and almost rebellious feminine touches as she pushes boundaries and explores a territory of design that is largely uncharted. Both pieces above are from her Modesty collection.
The Summertime Chair was launched this year by Nika for her own design firm “La femme et la maison Nika Zupanc”. The classic folding chair gets a whole new dynamic through curves and the subtle copper shade.
And the Five O’Clock chair for Moooi would be humble with a nod to mid-century modern if it weren’t for the sassy little flower print and the x-shaped back that, once again, balances the feminine direction of the chair.
Modenus editorial staff with be at Moooi in London on September 18 and we hope to bring you more from this exceptional artist.
