Tile! We love tile! You see it used for it’s durability, ease of maintenance, versatility but most importantly because it is an endless source for creative designs. Tile designs can be monochromatic and restrained, they can provide visual interest through texture and a mix of shapes and sizes, they can be of striking artistic quality and elegance or they can be wild and wonderful as the installation above by Dominic Crinson suggests. Here’s a brief tour as part of this year’s first “Tile Tuesday” on Modenus.
Tile can become the focal point of a room when it’s allowed to become art, like in this example of Eglomisé by Simes Studios
or this masterfully crafted mosaic masterpiece by New Ravenna Mosaics. I can see this scene covering an entire bathroom floor with freestanding bathtub at the center.
A bold pattern mix can add character and a lived in feel as in this lava stone tile by Made A Mano,
or it can emphasize the clean lined, organic simplicity of a space, as in these lava stone floor tiles also by Made A Mano.
We’ve had much discussion as of late about tile on counter tops, you’re welcome to join our forums and weigh in on that topic, but what about tile on ceilings? I love the look since ceilings are often ignored in the greater scheme of design but how feasible is it? Do we have experts here to leave a comment?
