Marnie Moyle is slender, pretty and very energetic and in no way looks like the hunky, plaid wearing, tabbaco chewing woodworker we would have imagined to be the creator of such ruggedly handsome furniture pieces and accessories. Marnie uses only green oak to create furniture, swings and accessories and has a lot to say about the material.
“Green Oak is timber that has not been seasoned – it still has a high water content from being the trees’ life blood. I use the timber like this because in the course of steadily drying out in the atmosphere I can create furniture that will warp, contort, twist, perhaps split, giving each piece a wonderful individual character. Green Oak brings out the best of my craftsmanship and I hope will bring out the best in the people I make it for as the furniture matures with them. Every little bit of the process is done by hand, even the source or provenance of the oak is discreetly carved on all my bigger items. Furniture made from Green Oak is challenging to work with and needs to be crafted with thought and skill … and then it moves! And it will silver and look as appropriate outside as any of nature’s beings. There will be no need for maintenance or bringing the work in over the winter months. This work has been designed to celebrate the seasons and the elements and took look better for being amongst them.”
We love the simple designs, the stories engraved into the edges and the beauty of the silvery wood. Charming, comfortable and yet amazingly stylish.
