Grace and beauty, heightened emotions and passion, these are the elements of so much that is enjoyable in art and in sport. Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised, therefore, at the popularity of paintings and sculptures that reflect the central role of sport in many people’s lives? Spirit of Sports is a new e-commerce site which opens for business next month. The viewer is promised a curated collection of fine art, bronze sculpture and luxury accessories grouped around individual sports. Modenus has seen a few of the first items that have been selected for inclusion and ‘Tennis‘ by Steve Kuzma is one of our favourites. It speaks to us of focus, anticipation and a great power to be unleashed. Steve’s work has been featured in Sport Magazine, Art Direction Magazine, Backpacker, Boating, and other titles as well as being sought after by both sports and arts lovers everywhere.
The Sport of Kings can trace its roots back to the Greek Olympics half a century BC. Modern racing probably has its roots in Knights of the British Empire importing Arabic horses when they returned from the Crusades. Today the sport is enjoyed by millions for the sheer power and elegance of a thoroughbred racer with the skill and bravery of the jockey supported by the experience and dedication of the trainer. ‘Horse Race – Ants View‘ by Doug Lew captures that and more. Doug Lew is a Shanghai born artist who moved to the States at teeh age of 15. His work is marked by a sense of force and lightness, of energy and ease, and what he describes as a ‘careful carelessness and a sense of the poetic’.
‘Another Day at the Office ‘by Ken Auster captures more than a moment. There is a narrative here, a whole story that can only be imagined while becoming lost in the evocative work which features the economic brush strokes and refined construction that characterize much of the Long Beach born artist’s work.
Spirit of Sports is currently seeking applications for inclusion in its curated catalog. Modenus is featuring highlights from the collection which can be found in the Spirit of Sports listing in our catalog.
And Spirit of Sports are also one of the sponsors for the Modenus Blogtour to London. So our thanks to them, not only for curating such a wonderful collection of sporting art but also for supporting the first trip by some of the most influential and prolific American and Canadian bloggers to London Design Festival.
