“Do one thing and do it really well’ is one of those aphorisms with which its hard to disagree and for which it is harder still to find an example. Yastik, the newly launched store in London’s Kensington sells nothing else other than very beautiful cushions, or pillows as they are known to our American colleagues. The shop was first created in Turkey as a collaboration between Rifat Ozbek and Erdal Karaman. Each design is produced as a limited edition and each season brings a new collection. The designs include vintage, new and custom-made mainly from Central Asia. They are all hand died, hand loomed and hand printed. The hand-embroidered Suzani fabrics are made to Ozbek’s selection of old Ottoman patterns. And, in case you are wondering, Yastik is Turkish for cushion, of course. Please enjoy our tour of the newest pieces in the collection.
