It is difficult to sum up Sam Giddins and Mink Interiors. ‘Modern-Glamour’ and ‘Classical-elegance’ was the best we could manage between us. Based in Royal Tunbridge Wells, with clients in London and the South East, Mink Interiors create rooms with a light, easy feel, and a twist of fun. “I do like neutral backdrops” says Sam, “And then I add colors through furniture and accessories. But, as she says, what she likes isn’t as important as what the client wants. “Its about helping them find their style” she says, ‘the skill is getting under the skin of a client’.
Couples, as many designers will recognize, present their own challenges. For Sam, it isn’t about compromises. “You don’t want to end up being a referee or a marriage counselor – it is about finding something they both want”.
Sam became involved with interior design around ten years ago, working with Californian Ann Maurice, also know as The ‘House Doctor’. It gave her a perspective on both American design, which she admires and European and English design which she describes as “more eclectic, willing to push the envelope”. And it is by using a small element of that quirky, eclectic design amidst a more traditional overall design that Sam ensures the individuality of her work.
Social media is something Mink Interiors and Sam have just started to be involved with. She was inspired to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, during London Design Festival where she also discovered Modenus’ BlogTour, which takes leading bloggers to design destinations around the world. After just a few months Sam is already beginning to build a respectable Twitter following and a growing audience for her blog that focuses on finds she wants to share.
With a busy schedule of residential design projects, living areas, bedrooms and children’s bed rooms all lined up the blog is something Sam says she is going to have to find time for. We hope she does, just as her designs benefit from a light touch with a delightful twist of the unexpected her blogs reveal a talent for spotting and sharing fresh and quirky finds. We look forward to hearing more from Sam and Mink Interiors.
