Dressing tables – vintage vanity or cleverly chic?

Barcelona mirrored dressing table

They’re glamorous of course, feminine and always a bit decadent, but we think a far more appropriate solution in a bedroom than a tv armoire or heaven forbid that dreaded treadmill. If you think about it, almost every Master Bedroom has a small space that would benefit from a dressing table vignette to soften a corner or break the line created by large pieces like beds and night stands. The Barcelona mirrored dressing table above (via Graham&Greene) is almost weightless.

Ding3000's "Pearl Make-up" from Skitsch

We liked the Easel look of Ding3000′s “Pearl Make-up” from Skitsch (via Designspotter). Clean and fresh, it ignores all Victorian dressing table implications.

Joan in Tulip wood and oak at Nina Campbell.

Very classic lines, lots of storage and the mirror folds away so it can double as a console, the “Joan” in Tulip wood and oak at Nina Campbell.

Johnny Egg vanity

And for a bit of fun in the bedroom, here’s Johnny Egg’s vanity (via Heal’s). We love the “jump-out-and-bite-you-pink” accent and it even has a secret compartment. Oh the romance!

About Eve by Henri Becq at Modénature

And who says a dressing table has to be for the girls. This is “About Eve” by Henri  Becq at Modénature, but frankly we think it’s much closer to an “about Adam” and it should be. Nothing wrong with boys who primp and look good, especially when it adds a handsome piece to the household.

Love love love the mirrored dressing table. I wish I had room for one in my bedroom!

I’ve always been a fan of vanity tables – they are painfully romantic. Although I’m partial to the ones that are more traditional in appearance – not crazy about the artist easel…would make me feel like I am literally painting my face on. BUT I do appreciate the ingenuity involved in reinventing the common form.
    Cool post, thanks for sharing.

This is going to sound crazy, but I stumbled onto one by Pottery Barn Teen that doesn’t look bad at all! It’s called the ‘hampton-vanity-tower-and-super-set’ They’ve got it styled to appeal to a teenager, it’s all junked up with stickers and whatnot, but they do have a simple photo of it in it’s natural state- all white, good lines – it has plenty of storage for all that makeup and hair stuff too!

I like the idea of a dressing table. I especially like the modern black one you posted on the very bottom – I don’t know where one would store beauty products, but it’s very appealing.
