Designing with Wellness in Mind- A conversation with Mr. Steam

We were proud to host our second annual #designhounds Day of Design during ICFF and NYCxDesign this past May. Our local group of designhounds hailing from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Boston had the opportunity to connect with sponsors Mr. Steam, Wilsonart and Hubbardton Forge. Mr. Steam kicked things off with a delectable and informative breakfast at LandMarc to discuss the key importance of wellness in design.

Designhounds Day of Design sponsor Mr. Steam hosted a glorious breakfast to start our design-filled day with a special visit by Vice President of Marketing, Martha Orellana. Martha spoke about designing with wellness in mind sharing the 40+ benefits steam can offer and of course, Mr. Steam’s award-winning (and sexy) Linear SteamHead design and all the elements that make a Mr. Steam steam shower one-of-a-kind. A popular topic in design, the question is often asked, what do designers do to create a stress-free environment for their clients and how important is wellness in design?

Mr. Steam had a wide variety of statistics explaining the importance of wellness in design resulting and the need for designers to convey and implement aspects of wellness in their projects and practices. According to Mr. Steam, we spend 90 % of our time indoors and for that reason, homeowners and organizations alike are more conscientious of a well-designed space that can enhance their living and/or work experience. Mr. Steam quotes “Design can be instrumental in helping clients reduce stress in their daily lives” and we couldn’t agree more. There is a myriad of benefits that are associated with reducing stress including better sleep, mental clarity and improved performance. So why not apply elements of wellness to help reduce stress in the home and workplace. That’s where Mr. Steam comes in.

AromaTherapy- It’s all in the oils! According to WebMD, “Aromatherapy may promote relaxation and help relieve stress. It has also been used to help treat a wide range of physical and mental conditions, including burns, infections, depression, insomnia, and high blood pressure.” Mr. Steam offers a line of chakra oils that you can utilize with your daily steam to achieve a feeling of well-being.

Chromatherapy-You have to see it to believe it. According to the article “A Critical Analysis of Chromotherapy and Its Scientific Evolution” by Samina T. Yousuf Azeemi* and S. Mohsin Raza via NCBI ”chromotherapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic radiation to cure diseases. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to cure various diseases.” Mr. Steam offers a wide array of Chromasteam options to encourage feelings of vitality, awakening, and harmony to name a few.
