Eco Stream by Sodastream -saving the planet one bottle at a time

Modenus UK has always been struck by the pragmatism of the French practice on buying wine ‘en vrac’ – filling bottles from vast containers – it is just a shame that the wine is so often undrinkable. On a saunter around Brighton the other day we came across a store which seems to have been inspired by the idea. Eco Stream is the first such endeavor by Sodastream.
Sodastream have chosen Brighton for it’s green ecological credentials. It is, for example, the only place in the UK that has elected a Green MP. That’s politically green, not skin tone. The Brighton store sells Balsamic Vinegar, Olive Oil, all sorts of detergents and cooking oils as well as Sodastreams more familiar products for ‘get bust with the fizzy’ enthusiasts.

The store also sells a range of very attractive bottles and containers to fill with aforementioned goodies although the whole idea is that rather than throwing away all those expensive and resource intensive containers we will wash them out and take them down to Eco Stream to refill.
There are obstacles to overcome. Will people want to take their empty containers with them on a shopping trip? We are only just learning to reuse our plastic shopping bags. How sticky will the store become after a few distracted folk overfill their bottles?
Only time will tell but it is a fascinating and laudable initiative. We wish them great success.
