We caught up with Mark Abbott of Abbott & Boyd at Decorex during BlogTour 2011 and the one brand in his collection that caught our attention was Elitis, particularly the new Alliances collection pictured above. Designed in collaboration with Rosaria Ratting, “Vases” is made of jersey fabric stretched over molded foam. Elitis say it’s easy to hang, we say it’s easy to fall in love with. If anyone has used this already please let us know, we’d love to feature an installation. Continue Reading…

This feature is sponsored by Casart Coverings.
Casart Coverings have an uncanny ability to surprise us, something not everyone succeeds at, by constantly creating new designs, colors and styles for their removable wall covering collection and, as if that weren’t enough, they casually mention that they’ve partnered with design superstar Mary Douglas Drysdale to launch Mary Douglas Drysdale Signature Colors.
If you know and love Mary’s work, then you will enjoy her color offerings. She’s known for her use of strong, bold colors and pushes the envelope even further with the new line for Casart which is now available on repositionable and removable wallcoverings. The collection’s rich and lively colors are available in both Colorwash and Faux Linen designs.

Dwell on Design opens June 24. In amongst the 200 exhibitors are a good many old friends and some new faces we feel the need to introduce you to. Here’s our top trio of picks for today. Watch this space for more!
Capital Cooking Equipment Inc.
Booth Number: 221
www.capital-cooking.com
On Modenus

And we start, for no reason other than Modenus Tim’s obsession with the quality of their grills, ovens and cook-tops with Capital Cooking Equipment. These are the people who make kitchen equipment for people who cook. It is true that everything they make looks good, but it is the details that are designed to delight the most fastidious chef that make them one of our favourite appliance manufacturers.
Wallter
Booth Number: 203
www.wallter.com

Wallter make coat racks, mobiles, textiles, planters and lots more creative stuff. They also make what they call ‘Wall Decor’. The shapes are made out of wood and the good news for people who like painting is that they are supplied in matte white ready for your tender attentions. That’s also the bad news for people who don’t like painting.
wakaNINE – David Trubridge Design
www.davidtrubridge.com
On Modenus

The Dwell web site doesn’t give a booth number for wakaNine, David Trubridge’s representatives in North America, but we promise the hunt for them will be worthwhile. We are fans of David and have enormous respect for his commitment to creating create environmentally conscious design. We also love his designs, so clearly inspired by the natural world.

You don’t just look at Chae Young Kim‘s wall paper – you marvel at it. The soft, hair-like lines seem to have been photographed or hand drawn. You have to wonder how she does it. We asked, of course, and she told us. We will tell you and maybe you will be wiser. Without wanting to seem dense ,we still don’t quite get the technology but we do get the design. Continue Reading…

Madison and Grow make a small range of exceptional wallpapers. With an evident Mid Century Modern feel they are grown up but never boring, bold without being loud. There are two collections, Martha’s Vineyard and Pasadena. Each collection contains a limited number of variations but everyone one of them is excellent. The designs are hand-drawn before being scanned in for pre-press production. Screens are created and each roll is hand silk screened using water based ink. Here at Modenus we have a thing for wallpaper, and many of the current indie designers offer a refreshing return of pattern and colour where expanses of washed out, muted shades have reigned supreme. Have a look at these designs and see if you can disagree. The design above is Eleanor in Peridot at Night from the Pasadena range.

It is the detail that makes Trove Wallpapers special. New York-based design duo Jee Levin and Randall Buck create wall coverings which stand alongside work by Timorous Beasties, Black Crow Studios and Australian Wilding Wallpaper as examples of just how far the art of wallpaper has come. Maybe we should stop talking about wallpaper, this is wall art. The detail above is from Fuco, which is available in five different hues and full length, looks like this -
