In our ongoing series featuring the people we’ve met on Twitter and who’ve been instrumental to us over the past few months, we have the honor to spotlight none other than the great connector himself, the man who caught one of my first ever tweets, took a look at who this new chirper was, decided to take me under his wings and open a few doors. It was Paul who taught me that social media only works when you give a little and take a little and when you patiently, one tweet and one new connection at a time, build a relationship with people. Paul’s been going far these past few months. I’ve just subscribed to his RSS feed just to keep up with what have become daily announcements about where he had been asked to travel to next, to connect and promote and teach. Thank you Paul for being there for Modenus and the German bird with the “k” in her name.

Tell us about yourself. What do you do? Where do you live?

I am a St. Petersburg, FL-based Free-lance kitchen and bath designer, writer and social media mercenary. What do I do? I do what needs to be done. Whether it’s doing the math for a tile layout or building a community around a brand, I have varied interests and I’m pretty engaged in what I’m doing.

What’s a typical day in your life?

I tend to get up early and I spend about a half an hour doing nothing more than drinking tea and watching the world come to life from my patio. Then I turn on my laptop and it starts. I sort through the overnight e-mail and then it’s off to Twitter. I’m usually finished with all of that and actively working by the time my phone starts to ring at around nine or so.

What makes you laugh? What makes you cry? What makes you happy?

All kinds of things make me laugh, whether it’s the crows and blue jays in the mornings or the antics of some of my more animated colleagues. I think I’m happiest when I’m baking bread or having friends over for dinner.

What was the inspiration for you to use Twitter as a communication platform?

I fell into it because everybody told me I needed to be there. I poked around with it for a couple of months and could never understand the point of it. I don’t know what clicked precisely but something did about four months into it. The rest is history. Twitter is nothing less than the greatest boon to human communication since the advent of moveable type.

Where do you want to be in ten years from now?

In ten years I’ll be 55. By then I hope to have found a publisher for my book and I hope to be working a little less than I do now. A second home would be nice but on the whole I see my life playing out pretty much the way it does now. I do what I love and make enough money from it to keep myself housed and fed. Who could ask for more?

For the remaining two people on Twitter who have never heard of Paul Anater of “Kitchen and Residential Design” , you know it’s embarrassing so please go now and subscribe to his blog and follow him on Twitter, now! I mean it!

Fantastic post on Paul Anater! Nicely done, Veronika! Paul, thanks for reminding me how fun the blue jays and crows are.

    Best,
