This weeks Room of the Week is a sleek modern kitchen with a large island. From the House to Home galleries this kitchen provides a very sociable entertaining space – and features dual ovens to cater for lots of guests!
With less than two weeks to go until Blog Tour NYC starts this weeks Room of the Week focuses on three of the sponsors of the tour who specialise in the kitchen market –Poggenpohl, Blanco and Jenn Air. Each of these sponsors supply one of the essential elements that come together to create a great kitchen design.
Poggenpohl has a world wide reputation for their kitchen cabinets. Established in Germany in 1892 the company has always been at the forefront of kitchen design. Their handless kitchens are a personal favourite of mine. The design of this type of kitchen is perfect for open plan rooms combining living and kitchen areas.
For smart sinks and taps Blanco is often the company I specify for clients. Another company that originates from Germany, Blanco have been making kitchen fittings since 1925. The Blanco Culina is the latest tap added to their product range. The tap features an igneous flexible spring spout that can be moved from the fitting – and then snaps back in place magnetically after use. I want one of these taps for my own kitchen!
Good quality extraction is an essential requirement in a kitchen. The traditional choice above an island unit has been a large island extractor – although in a large open space it can often break up the room. An alternative would be a downdraft extractor, Jenn Air manufacturer a great telescoping downdraft extractor. When needed the extractor extends upwards by 35cm – then when you are finished it retracts into the worktop. Your own bit of James Bond magic in your kitchen!
Planning a well equipped kitchen is a specialist task and something that you need to careful think about. Choose each of the elements carefully and they will serve you for many years – this is one area where it certainly pays to buy quality products.
