There was an understandable, but somewhat loud screech of excitement when Vitra came on board as a BlogTourNYC sponsor. The company describes itself as “a furniture company dedicated to developing healthy, intelligent, inspiring and durable solutions for the office, the home and for public spaces.” We describe them as iconic, intelligent, committed, aware and unmistakably fun. Vitra tells us that its products and concepts are developed in Switzerland by applying what they call a diligent design process that brings together the company’s engineering excellence with “the creative genius of leading international designers”. There is no doubt about that their products are seriously practical while being highly desirable. They say “It is our goal to create products with a high functional and aesthetic life” We say they make things that will last, and that you will want to keep for ever.
When Vitra talk about the ecological, social and economic responsibility they proudly assert has always been a part of the company’s industrial culture. Then they slip in that they are, after all, just following in the tradition of Charles and Ray Eames.
You know when you are looking at furniture made by Vitra, be it from their ranges for the home, office or public spaces. You know because it makes you happy, because it makes you smile because there is something special about it, quality, wit and thoughtfulness.
And now Vitra are sponsoring Blogtour NYC where we get to visit their showroom. How great is that!
