We are beside ourselves with excitement over being able to bring our 12th BlogTour back to New York City and, for the first time, to New York City during May’s Design Week or NYCxDesign as some will call it. We will be in town from May 15 – 20 with 12 bloggers from the US, Canada, the UK, Holland and Denmark – how’s that for international? If you’re going to be in town as well, please let us know below so we can invite you to various meetups and events with BlogTour and if you’re living vicariously at the edge of your laptop, please follow the tour at #BlogTourNYC on Twitter or follow all the post on our Modenus BlogTour At-a-Glance pages. So what’s it all about? Here you go:
Day 1: Arriving with a grand party on our minds
Easing into the tour just isn’t our style and after a fun meet & greet at the bar of our hotel partner Citizen M (BlogTour London Alumni know that bar very well) we’re off to a cocktail party at the DXV showroom in the Flatiron District hosted by none other than Hearst Publishing and Newell Turner, Editor in Chief of House Beautiful. Having worked with DXV for quite some time now, we’re certain that the luxury plumbing brand will once again pull all the stops and make this an affair to remember.
Day 2: Wanted Design and Kips Bay Showhouse
After a leisurely breakfast with the team we’ll head out to get a first dose of great design from our friends at Wanted Design. The independent design show, much like BlogTour now in its fourth year, launched by Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat has turned heads in New York’s design community by presenting a more creative and edgy exhibition and dialog format featuring a well curated blend of international brands, artisans and initiatives.
After Wanted we’re headed straight over to Kips Bay Decorator Show House. The annual event brings together celebrated interior designers and decorators to transform a luxury home in Manhattan. This year’s project is the transformation of The Mansion on Madison, the New York Palace Hotel’s north wing. Some of us who got our career start in a designer show house have an undying admiration for the designers who work together so closely and under time (and often budget) constraints to create absolutely striking spaces. Our tour will be led by New York Interior Designer and BlogTour London alumni Richard Rabel, who blogs as The Modern Sybarite, and who will focus our team’s attention on antiques, vintage and important art pieces used in the spaces.
Day 3: A day of design at ICFF
ICFF, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair is the anchoring event for New York Design Week and we look forward to seeing over 600 exhibitors including, of course, BlogTour sponsors Wilsonart and Mr Steam. We also plan to spend some quality time with our friends from the BEDG, The British European Design Group, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary at ICFF and who have our full admiration for bringing so many great British designers and artisans across the pond for us to enjoy and be inspired by.
Day 4: A day of rest – hey, we needed a break
If you know BlogTour you’ll already know where this is going. It’s Sunday so we’re going to kick back, take a leisurely stroll down the High Line before immersing ourselves in the warm waters at Ancient Baths in SoHo courtesy of the one and only Mr Steam and the company’s charming and enigmatic leader Martha Orellana.
The team will be off for the afternoon, and we’re likely going to find the napping in Central Park of perhaps at Brooklyn Flea, either way, they’ll be well rested for our private dinner with DXV CEO Jay Gould at Bar Americain. We told you blogging is a tough job!
Day 5: Modenus Talks (It’s what we’re best at) and Donghia and a dinner to remember
Our final day in New York City will feature another edition of Modenus Talks, this time on the very relevant topic of “From Runway to Runners – The Creative Process in Fashion & Design” . The talk will be led by interior designer Jeffrey Johnson and fashion event consultant Will Arriaga with special guests Britt Bivens, Principal, Ace of Swords trend forecasting company and fashion designer Cristina Ottaviano.
Our panel will talk about their own creative process before leading into a dialog with our bloggers and VIP guests for an afternoon of learning and inspired conversation and we will be sharing as much of the conversation via Twitter and other social media platforms so tune into #ModenusTalks on Twitter from 3-5pm EST on May 19.
Cocktail hour will be hosted by first time BlogTour sponsor Donghia who will share with us all that is new in terms of furniture and Rubelli fabrics. We cannot wait to meet them in their newly transformed showroom and again, encourage you to stay tuned to #BlogTourNYC for live coverage.
Our farewell dinner will be hosted at L’Ecole in SoHo, the restaurant of the International Culinary Center that is led by 60 chef-instructors. A VIP tour will allow us to glimpse the work behind the scenes before we settle down for a chef prepared farewell dinner.
What we can not describe for you beforehand is the buzz and excitement and the different angles and perspectives that will be shared by our bloggers. It is often said that it’s the people that make BlogTour and this tour will be no different. Please meet our team.
This tour will end our series of BlogTours for the summer and we will see everyone again when we return in the autumn with BlogTours to Paris and a road trip through California. Please get in touch with us if you’d like to learn more.
