Learning about stone – Stone Forest wows with Onyx

Onyx, the ever intriguing, rare, semi-precious stone with its translucent layers and exotic bands of alternating color, is often the material of choice when a dramatic effect in a space is desired.  The rich-looking stone has graced the most opulent hotels, palaces and residences for centuries, instantly transforming rooms from meek to chic. Even Cleopatra had a penchant for onyx!

Here’s a mini-wiki for those of you who need a few precious facts about this precious stone:

Origin: India and South America.

Uses: In ancient times, it was used for jewelry, vases and other ornaments. In interior design, translucent onyx is used for everything from furnishings and bath fixtures to countertops and floors.

History: Roman soldiers believed that the stone would make the wearer brave; and orators during the Renaissance believed it brought them eloquence.

Healing: Onyx has been used as a heart, kidney, nerve, capillary, hair, eye and nail strengthener; it is also said to help one sleep and eliminate apathy, stress and neurological disorders.

Mystical Powers: Onyx is known for eliminating negative thinking, and bringing spiritual inspiration.

And yes there will be a test at the end of this blog post so write this down.

Stone Forest, a manufacturer we’ve long coveted for their one-of-a-kind kitchen and bath designs sculpted from natural materials, utilizes onyx to incredible effect in their products. They work with huge varieties of the stone, including: honey, amber, purple, white and a dazzling multi-color.  Have a look at some of our favorites and better yet, tell us which one you like the most.
